Endorsement highlights Takai’s commitment to women’s right
HONOLULU (October 31, 2014) – Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) has endorsed Democratic State Rep. Mark Takai for the Hawaii Congressional race. “You have been a strong supporter of women’s health and we know you will continue to be a dedicated advocate,” PPAF stated in a letter to Takai.
“This is a crucial time in the fight for women and their access to healthcare. The Supreme Court Hobby Lobby decision handed down in June is just another example of limiting women’s access to healthcare needs,” PPAF added.
“I was extremely disappointed in the Supreme Court of the United States Hobby Lobby ruling. Business owners should not be involved in the most personal decision a woman and her doctor make,” Takai said.
“In 2013, I supported a bill, signed into law, requiring hospitals to provide victims of sexual assault with emergency contraception. I am honored to have the support of pro-choice leaders not only in Hawaii, but nationally who know that I will continue to be a strong advocate for a woman’s right to choose, which is one of the core Democratic values of our state,” Takai added.
Takai joins Senator Brian Schatz, Senator Mazie Hirono, and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard as candidates who have been endorsed by the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “Together as a unified delegation, we will continue to fight for women and their families across the nation,” Takai said.
In contrast, Takai’s Republican opponent, Charles Djou, has earned a zero rating from Planned Parenthood.
