The largest progressive group of veterans in America, VoteVets.org, on behalf of its more than 360,000 supporters, is today endorsing Mark Takai for Congress.
“From Kuwait to the State House, Mark has always been there for those who served in uniform,” said Greg White, Hawaii State Chair for VoteVets.org.
“But, his record is so much more than that. His dedication to Hawaii, and his constituents, has been boundless. From Seniors to children, and all of the working men and women in between, Mark has been there. He’ll carry that dedication to Congress, and make us all very proud.”
According to his biography, Mark Takai has served for 14 years as a member of the Hawaii National Guard, during which he was deployed to the Middle East as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009. Takai currently serves as the Chairman of House Veterans and Military Affairs Committee in the Hawaii State Legislature. He has spearheaded the Military Appreciation Package for over a decade and created both the Hawaii Medal of Honor and the Gold Star Families License Plate Program. Takai’s career both in Hawaii and abroad has been focused on taking care of his brothers and sisters in uniform.
Takai has authored legislation to provide tax credits to employers who hire vets. He’s created innovative programs that combat veteran homelessness and he helped create the Hawaii Veterans Court to connect veterans in need with the social services and medical care they need.
Founded in 2006, the mission of VoteVets.org Political Action Committee is to elect Veterans to public office, with a focus on Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, and hold public officials accountable for their words and actions that impact America’s 21st century troops and veterans. Though VoteVets.org PAC is non-partisan, candidates it backs must support VoteVets.org’s core mission and beliefs.
